The Cow In Kargyll

The Cow In Kargyll
The Cow in Kargyll, is a little peep into life in the Air Force. It starts with the writer’s stay in Srinagar where her husband commanded the Air Force station during the Kargil war of 2000. It is life from the perspective of an Air Force wife. There are things women have laughed and cried about. There are real life incidents. Observations about life on an AF station and life in the remote areas of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, where very few civilians reach. It is a peep into a lifestyle which very few people outside the armed forces can visualize or even imagine. There are stories about the restricted life wives of IAF personnel lead and then there are the stories of shared time and space with families of the Indian Army. The writer feels that it is probably the only place in the country where the two services are so close and share so much. There is fun, there is drama and yes there are tears too. There is the story from a mother who was told that her son had died in the war, there is a short piece from one young pilot who was the solitary prisoner of war, there are a number of pieces from other AF wives. It ends with the writer’s husband hanging up his uniform—thus saying goodbye to a life full of fun, adventure, thrills and chills! Incidentally, COW is an acronym for the Commanding Officer’s Wife.
